How much money should I give when my children are only invited to the wedding reception and not the wedding?

Question I've been invited to the wedding ceremony and the reception and dance afterwards. My children, however, have only been invited to the later reception and dance but not to the wedding ceremony. Should I give more money as a wedding gift because they'll be at the wedding reception too?

Answer It is always the wedding guest's choice to determine how much is appropriate to give as a wedding gift. Generally speaking, wedding gifts have always been optional, although many wedding guests will give a wedding gift to congratulate the bride and groom on their new venture as a married couple.

It is your choice if you want to give more money to acknowledge that your children will be at the wedding reception. Other factors to consider are the cost of each individual place setting at the wedding reception, your relationship to the bride and groom, and what is financially feasible for you.
